in front of their home
263 East 10th Street (between First Avenue & Avenue A), New York, New York
Comrade Monica Shay is fighting for her life in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley Hospital after a mass shooting at the Shay home in which two people were killed and three were seriously injured.(Details and motives of the execution style attack are still unclear.)
Paul Shay was also seriously wounded and is recovering after surgery.
Both are veteran revolutionary activists who have dedicated their lives to serving the people.
Monica has been a driving force within the October 22 National Coalition and the Stolen Lives project.
“The October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation would like to share our deepest sympathies and regards for the families of the victims of Saturday night’s horrific mass shooting in Pennsylvania. Monica Shay, one of the victims of the attack, is the National Coordinator of the October 22nd Coalition, and has been part of the backbone of our New York City coordinating committee for many years. Known affectionately by her comrades as Kathryn, she is one of the fiercest and most giving warriors for the people that any of us have ever known.
“Though given very little chance for survival, we are unwilling to stop fighting alongside our sister as long as her body continues to fight. We ask that all of our brothers and sisters in the movement across the country continue to hope for the best as she struggles to defy the odds. Monica fights for us all on a daily basis, now is when she needs us to return the love and strength.
“Those local to New York City, please join us in vigil at 6:30pm on July 5th in front of Kathryn and Paul’s home at 263 East 10th Street (between First Avenue & Avenue A) as we stand together to give each other hope and strength.”
